Neighborhood libraries

Neighborhood libraries are part of the Bucharest landscape, being a proof that Romanians have not completely alienated themselves from the book. We will walk through District 2 to see the offer available to those who live in this part of the city. It should be mentioned that the institutions we present are available to all Bucharest residents who wish to borrow a book at home or wish to consult different documents at the reading room. In order to go to a library in District 2, there is no obligation to live in this area of ​​Bucharest.

„Lucian Blaga” Library

On Mihai Bravu Road, at number 116, more precisely in Iancului Square, operates the „Lucian Blaga” Library.

You can find the library „Lucian Blaga” on the ground floor of a block on Mihai Bravu Road.

Like all neighborhood libraries in the city, this institution is part of the network of the Metropolitan Library of Bucharest.

With a fairly generous area for a neighborhood library (250 square meters), the „Lucian Blaga” Branch has a loan room with free access for adults, a multifunctional reading room with a capacity of 15 places, fitted with the necessary equipment to carry out cultural programs, four computers made available to the public, a scanner and a video projector.

The „Lucian Blaga” branch of the Bucharest Metropolitan Library has a collection of over 30,000 documents.

People who pass the threshold of this institution have 30,000 library documents available. These are books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, CDs, albums, DVDs, etc. Also, here you can find a number of reference materials from different fields. In addition, those who are passionate about languages ​​can access the „Lucian Blaga” Library, having the opportunity to discover many books in English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese. There are also games for children or adults.

The staff working in „Lucian Blaga” Library offers guidance to all those who call on the services of this institution.

Artoteca, a space dedicated to art lovers

Artoteca was reopened two years ago and is a space dedicated to art lovers.

Another special place we find in District 2 is the Artoteca, a space for the visual arts lover.

The Artoteca is very close to Obor Square, more precisely on Mihai Bravu Road, at number 4. The Metropolitan Library of Bucharest decided, two years ago, to reopen the Artoteca, so that Bucharest people can enjoy the artworks made by Romanian painters, which are part of the Union of Plastic Artists.

Mediateca, a sound library, operates at the same address. This space is not only used by the visually impaired people, it is intended for any type of public.

The library has over 20,000 library documents. It is also equipped with a multifunctional reading room, a loan room, but also with five computers with internet access, with a multifunctional printer, scanner, video projector.

Within the space located on Mihai Bravu Road, number 4, the Sound Library for Blind people and people with Amblyopia (BSNA) also operates.

BSNA is a library that is specifically addressed to visually impaired people. It has two computers for the public, an antiphonic camera for recordings and a wide range of audiobooks: CDs and audio cassettes.

„Dimitrie Cantemir” Library

„Dimitrie Cantemir” library operates on Viitorului Street, at number 52. On an area of ​​400 square meters, this branch of the Metropolitan Library of Bucharest offers to the public a loan room, located on the ground floor of the building, nine computers connected to the Internet (two of them are for children), four individual study rooms, located on the first floor, a reading room with eight seats at the tables and a conference and training room, located on the second floor.

„Dimitrie Cantemir” library has a collection of over 33,000 documents. The public has access to books, albums, dictionaries, encyclopedias, CDs, DVDs, from all fields of knowledge. The institution also has an important number of books in different languages, as well as games for children and adults.

„Dimitrie Cantemir” library periodically hosts the „Hour of stories”, a program dedicated to children aged 3 to 6 years. In this project volunteers read to the little ones to familiarize them with reading and to determine them to love the world of books.

Also other branches of the Metropolitan Library of Bucharest organize such events. Children can participate in the „Hour of stories” and the „Dimitrie Bolintineanu” Library, „Vasile Alecsandri” Library, „Nicolae Bălcescu” Library, „Lucian Blaga” Library, „Ion Luca Caragiale” Library, „Ion Creangă” Library, „George Enescu” Mediateca,” Emil Gârleanu „Library,” Nicolae Labiș „Library,” Liviu Rebreanu „Library,” George Topîrceanu „Library,” Bogdan Petriceicu Hașdeu „Library,” Marin Preda „Library,” Ienăchiță Văcărescu „Library.

„Costache Negruzzi” Library

On Pantelimon Road, at number 239, right on the ground floor of a block, the Costache Negruzzi Library operates.

In an area of ​​82 square meters, the library offers its public a loan room with free access, a multifunctional reading room with a capacity of 10 places, fitted with the necessary equipment for cultural, educational and socialization programs, two computers connected to the internet, multifunctional printer, scanner, video projector.

„Costache Negruzzi” branch has a collection of over 20,000 documents. These are books, albums, dictionaries, CDs, DVDs. It also has a rich book collection in different languages, but also a diverse range of games for children and adults.

„Alexandru Odobescu” Library

Hidden among the blocks, the neighborhood libraries are part of the cultural landscape of Bucharest.

You can find the library „Alexandru Odobescu” just behind the National College „Iulia Hașdeu”, on Oborul Nou Street, at number 13. The institution covers an area of ​​88 square meters and has a loan room with free access for adults, three computers for the public, multifunctional printer, scanner, video projector.

„Alexandru Odobescu” branch offers its public over 20,000 library documents, from all fields of knowledge (books, dictionaries, albums, encyclopedias, CDs, DVDs), reference materials (encyclopedias, dictionaries, guides, albums etc.), collections of books in English, French and books for language learning for all age groups (English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Chinese). Also, children and adults find a variety of games here.

About the Metropolitan Library

Bucharest Metropolitan Library is a network of public libraries, under the patronage of the Bucharest City Hall, which facilitates access to information and reading, through the free home loan service.

The Metropolitan Library of Bucharest has today 30 branches throughout Bucharest, its book collection exceeding one million volumes. Like all public libraries, the Metropolitan one started from a particular book donation. Other documents and books have always been added to this base.

Apart from the book loan, the Bucharest Metropolitan Library is actively involved in the cultural life of the city, regularly organizing a series of educational events.
