Let’s meet at the bookstore!

The bookstores are part of the colorful life of Bucharest, being those places where life flows otherwise, having a freshly scented book perfume mixed with the smell of dried flowers. During the Winter Holidays, bookstores are even more lively, offering pleasant shelter to those left in the pursuit of gifts.

We also embarked on such an adventure. Very close to the Roman Square, on the Gen. Gheorghe Magheru Boulevard, I discovered a famous bookstore in the Capital. This is the „Papyrus” Bookstore.

Librarians are looking for solutions to meet customers’ wishes.

When we arrived, there was a lot of commotion in the location, customers walking frantically through book shelves. Among them there were several children.

Floarea Flore, the head of the unit, was leading the „hostilities”, being in front of the customers. Paying attention to everything that was happening in the bookstore, she told us about the book industry continuing to grow. „We have clients of all age groups. As you can see, among the shelves are from five year olds looking for coloring books, to mature people who want to find out the news. I have been working in this bookstore since 1976, for 43 years. For me, working in a bookstore is like a story. We don’t just sell books, we have stationery products, toys. The Romanians who come to the bookstore are mainly looking for everything that the new publishers are launching, which is why it is very important to keep pace with what the reader wants,” says the librarian.

And in this period, when each of us is thinking of a gift, even a tiny one, for loved ones, what a place is more pleasant as a bookstore where we can surely find the ideal gift from Santa Claus.

Bookstores today are no longer just those places where shelves full of books dominate. Due to the way in which the clients’ demands were refined, the bookstores also diversified their offer to combine more tastes.

Today, in a bookstore you can discover handicrafts, but also various souvenirs preferred, especially by tourists coming to Bucharest. As well, in a bookstore you can indulge in a cup of flavored tea while reading a few pages of the book you want to buy. Moreover, many of the bookstores in Bucharest often host various cultural events in an intimate atmosphere, sheltered from books.

In the role of Santa Claus

The bookstores have entered the atmosphere of the Winter Holidays.

And as the pursuit of gifts did not end, we started to walk through Bucharest with the thought of reaching Gabroveni Street, at the intersection with I.C. Brătianu Boulevard, where the Antic Ex Libris Brătianu Bookstore operates.

As soon as we entered this place, we were amazed by the huge number of books it hosts. Put on collections, the volumes were just waiting to be purchased. Among them were other objects that you can always offer as a gift: interesting agenda, funny toys, various accessories, etc.

Extremely interesting is the offer of English books you can find here. Equally generous is the collection of art books, but also the one dedicated to kitchen enthusiasts.

The antique bookstore where you can find various titles of books in English.

And if we talked about the book offer in English, we will not move away from the area, because on I.C. Brătianu Boulevard, opposite the Colțea Hospital, is the Bookteca Bookstore.

This space dedicated to books in English is in fact a huge antique shop where volumes are collected at affordable prices for any pocket. The offer is a rich one and is addressed to all those who want to improve their English, but also to passionate connoisseurs to read the „heavyweights of universal literature” in Shakespeare’s language. Here you can find a children’s book, a book about the history of the world or volumes dedicated to personal development.

The interest for books was not lost.

The bookstore, regardless of the name it bears, is part of the atmosphere of Bucharest. Many such locations that combine the passion for the book with relaxing in front of an aromatic tea or cake have turned into tourist attractions. In addition, such places are increasingly hosting releases by well-known writers around the world.

Most of these places are located in the center of the Capital, so if you are thinking of a walk around this area, you should not miss meeting the bookstore with other beauty enthusiasts.
