Do Vu Lan Nhung is a small opera singer, who is preparing in Bucharest to conquer the world scenes. She is a student in Romania, due to the educational partnership between our country and Vietnam, her birthplace. People used to call her Rose, because it’s hard to say her name.
Rose is 25 years old and has been living in Bucharest since 2016, which became her second home. “I am passionate about art from childhood and I chose to perfect myself in classical music. I love music and it doesn’t matter what efforts I make to prepare myself. I was admitted to the National Academy of Music in Hanoi, the largest classical music institute in my country, and during my studies I learned that there is a scholarship agreement between Vietnam and Romania. I informed myself online and so I discovered that it is a peaceful, beautiful, special country, a place where classical music was born. Romania, from my point of view, in the field of classical music is at the same level as Germany, Italy or France. This was my motivation for applying. I received a full scholarship in December 2016,” tells the young woman.

The Vietnamese student acknowledges that she had other options, receiving scholarships from Russia and Hungary. However, she chose Romania because she fell in love with our culture. In addition, the National University of Music Bucharest is known throughout the world thanks to its teachers. “I am fascinated by soprano Mariana Colpoș, and it is an honor for me to be her student. I adore her when she sings and I have a lot to learn from her. I must mention that the work is a special art and it doesn’t matter where you study, it is important with whom you study and who helps you shine,” says Rose.
The way teachers work in college has made her consider the possibility of pursuing a career in education too. Thus, she can influence, in turn, the preparation of other young people. Today, her biggest dream is to become a music teacher.
In addition to her studies, Rose is also involved in many musical projects. Many of them are under the patronage of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Romania. Moreover, the Vietnamese community in Bucharest supports the young people studying in our country and helps them to get involved in many cultural events.
She sees Bucharest as a mosaic

When it was hard for her, and the longing for Vietnam’s family and friends overwhelmed her, Bucharest didn’t let her give up. The beauty of the city, but especially the warmth of the people and the tranquility of life in the Romanian capital, have strengthened her every time. Rose confesses that this style fits her soul and gives her the peace she needs to manifest herself as an artist. “I like everything here. For me, Bucharest is a second home. I am fascinated by people’s love for nature, but especially their love for classical music. In the eyes of a foreigner, Bucharest is a mixture formed by the tradition of this people and the Orthodox faith of the Romanians. At the same time it is a place where many communities of all nations live. Bucharest, in fact the whole of Romania, is like a mosaic made up of many religions, cultures, landscapes, etc.”, emphasizes the young student.

The unique architecture that she has the opportunity to admire in the capital of Romania made her love the city even more. Old buildings delight her, but there are also many theaters, museums and religious buildings that talk about the history of the Romanian people. “I like the nostalgic beauty of Bucharest and I admire the uniqueness of the historical values. I visited several museums, including the National Art Museum of Romania, “Theodor Aman” Museum, Cotroceni National Museum, National Museum of Romanian Aviation. I also had the opportunity to visit other regions in Romania. I went to Sibiu, to Piatra Neamț, to Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Constanța, Pitești, Brașov. I also saw the most beautiful road in the world: Transfagarasan. I love all the places I’ve been and it’s hard for me to decide on just one. In all of Romania, I was delighted by architecture, but also by nature. But most of all, I like the hospitality of this land. People surround you with love and make you overcome nostalgia for those you left at home. For these reasons, Bucharest is a destination sought by people like me. In this city you can find the quintessence of European culture. For students who want to learn in a quiet country, this is the ideal place. Life is not as expensive as in other capitals of the world. If I had to start over again and be given the opportunity to choose again, I would still choose Bucharest”, stresses Rose.
